Head of Curriculum and Progression

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Articulate and implement a clear vision to drive forward continuous improvement and enable the Centre to achieve aspirational targets for student success in line with Study Group’s Vision 2022 strategic pillars
  • Contribute to strategic planning and policy development in areas including human resources; academic development; learning, teaching and assessment; and academic quality assurance and enhancement as part of the Centre management team
  • Identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats and identify appropriate actions to solve problems and enhance delivery
  • Provide effective and efficient academic leadership, management and co-ordination of staff resources across the academic teams in the Centre, working closely with the Head of Centre and the management team
  • Participate in regular meetings with teaching and support staff and represent the Centre at appropriate events and meetings within the Centre, The  University of Strathclyde, the Study Group network and externally
  • Lead on ensuring that the Centre is fully compliant with Study Group, the University of Strathclyde and relevant external agencies’ quality frameworks, policies, procedures and codes of practice
  • Contribute to and monitor progress against the actions in the Centre Action Plan and report on these to the Head of Centre and various governance committees, as required from time to time
  • Ensure that the Centre’s Quality Assurance framework is implemented across all academic teams and Assist in the development and submission of the Centre’s Annual Monitoring Report- taking the lead on this when necessary
  • Lead on the periodic re-approval process including the development of the programmes in conjunction with University academics and abiding by Study Group’s internal approval processes
  • Coordinate opportunities to work closely with the University department Link Tutors, developing effective partnerships to gain academic opportunities and benefits for both students and staff
  • As part of the Centre management team, contribute towards the effective day-to-day management of the ISC including inducting staff, implementing health and safety policies, arranging cover for absent staff, responding to the views, needs and requests of students, Strathclyde University, staff, parents, and sponsors; attending meetings as appropriate, and inform strategic planning and resource allocation
  • Oversee and work with the centre’s VLE champion to ensure the development and maintenance of the Centre’s VLE, pre-arrival materials, and any online learning opportunities, where applicable
  • Monitor agreed with Key Performance Indicators in academic areas to demonstrate effectiveness in achieving the Centre’s objectives and manage performance, where required
  • Support the Centre’s DSL through Safer Recruitment actions, and make certain that all academic staff across the Centre are aware of their obligations/requirements, be prepared to act as DDSL if necessary in an emergency and take the emergency phone if required

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • A Bachelor’s degree and postgraduate qualification (Master’s or above)
  • Teaching qualification or HEA Fellowship
  • Further management or leadership qualifications or a willingness to undertake such
  • Experience in providing leadership in a complex multi-disciplinary environment, with recent evidence of significant success in bringing individuals together and forming a strong team ethos
  • Ability to delegate activities set deadlines and take responsibility for overseeing their successful completion to meet challenging targets
  • Experience in planning and delivering change or continuous improvement in teaching & learning which achieved a positive impact on student outcomes
  • Experience in HR duties, such as delivering training and taking part in the recruitment process
  • Experience in successfully leading internal communications, which includes disseminating complex messages or changes to operations.
