Postdoctoral Research Assistants (PDRA) – Causal Inference and Storyline Methods (2 Posts)

Description:

Two PDRA posts at University of Reading in causal inference and storyline methods

Two post-doctoral research posts are available in the area of causal inference and storyline methods, to investigate and quantify the impact of variability and change in atmospheric circulation on climate and weather extremes over Europe during the extended cold season. The post-holders will work under the supervision of Professor Ted Shepherd and Dr Marlene Kretschmer, within the context of the ArctiCONNECT and XAIDA projects. One post will focus on the role of Arctic-midlatitude connections, and the other will focus on the implications of extremes for impacts on ecosystems and the energy sector through event case studies.

In both cases, you will have:

  • A PhD or equivalent in meteorology or equivalent
  • A proven track record in research, demonstrated through excellent peer-reviewed publications
  • Proficiency in atmospheric data analysis
  • Good written and communication skills
  • Capability of independent thought
  • Knowledge of multivariate statistical modelling, atmospheric dynamics, climate variability and change, and climate modelling

Knowledge of causal inference and causal effect networks is desirable but not essential.

The posts are each for 26 months, beginning on 1 January 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Candidates for these positions are asked to apply through the University of Reading website and to provide:
