This role is an opportunity to join the Human Centred AI group at the Department of Computer Science The RED-AID: REspectful and capability-centreD AI Device for Preventing Call Fraud project is seeking a Research Assistant to help realise a novel real-time call fraud detection and mitigation tool, aimed to support older adults with memory concerns and dementia. The project is funded by the UK’s Research and Innovation (UKRI) Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) through the PETRAS National Centre of Excellence for Cybersecurity and IoT Internal Strategic Projects and Engagement Fund (ISPEF).

This project has a goal of reaching a technology readiness level 5 or above that the system can be validated for potential tech transfer into an industry spin-out. The extension of the position is subject to excellent performance and funding availability.

The ideal candidate would have a CS degree (undergraduate, master’s, or doctorate), and full-stack development with experience in Python, and JavaScript. Experience with applied natural language processing (NLP) and Machine Learning desired.  Further experience with designing apps for older adults or dementia patients would be additional assets.

Candidates will be expected to have a PhD (or be close to completion) in a related area and should indicate their special area(s) of interest from the four topics above in a cover letter. The primary selection criteria will be relevant research, design, and software development experience. We also welcome candidates without a Ph.D. or relevant experience who are seeking a development opportunity, for which an initial appointment would be at Grade 6 (£30,502 – £36,386 p.a.) with responsibilities adjusted accordingly. This would be discussed with applicants at interview/appointment where appropriate.
